Identify Your Filter Size

Your filter size is the most important part of choosing the right product

Option A – Check your current filter:

  • Remove the filter from your return grille.
  • Look on the side of the filter frame for a size such as 16×25×1 or 20×20×1.
  • This printed size is your nominal size—use this size when ordering.

Option B – Measure the slot or grille:

If the size isn't printed or this is your first replacement:

  • Measure width, height, and thickness of the filter opening in inches.
  • Round each measurement to the nearest whole number.
  • Example: If the opening is 19.75" × 24.5", order a 20×25 filter.

Choose Your Filter Thickness

Different systems use different filter thicknesses.

  • 1-inch filters – Most common; replaced every 30 days. Located in most residential homes.
  • 4-inch filters – High-efficiency filtration; replaced every 3–6 months. Not all residential systems use these filters. For these filters a special 4in housing is needed. Typically installed in the attic adjacent to the HVAC units.
